Draper Dental Anxiety

Anxious patients are welcome here. At Angel’s Smile Dental Care, we both understand and accommodate dental anxiety. Dr. Oksana Bailey has experience providing gentle, compassionate dental care to many anxious patients. We offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation to ease you into comfortable care.

How Common is Dental Anxiety?

Researchers estimate that upwards of 50% of adults deal with some form of dental anxiety, with 10-20% suffering from severe cases. If you identify with this struggle, we can help. Dr. Bailey has helped numerous patients receive quality dental care despite their anxiety.

Gentle, Compassionate Care

Helping anxious patients get the care they need starts with compassion. We understand what patients go through and are willing to go the extra mile to help them. Our gentle approach promotes comfort and ease, and when needed, our sedation options provide relaxation.

Sedation for Dental Anxiety

A woman breathes in nitrous oxide through a nose mask. Nitrous oxide is used to treat mild dental anxiety.Treating our patients’ anxiety is important to us, not only because it provides calm, but also because it promotes painless care. Anxiety intensifies feelings of pain and interferes with the pain-blocking work of numbing agents (such as novocain). This means that for anxious patients, novocain doesn’t work as well or as long, causing them to have trouble getting or staying numb. Because we care about your comfort, we offer sedation options to bring down your anxiety and allow the local anesthetic to work as it should. Nitrous oxide, which is breathed in through a mask placed over the nose, promotes a carefree feeling in cases of mild anxiety. It wears off immediately, allowing you to drive yourself to and from your appointment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

For our most anxious patients, we offer oral conscious sedation to bring you into a blissful state of relaxation for the duration of your treatment. Under oral sedation, you may feel as though you’ve slept through the entire appointment and will likely not remember it later. But unlike being under general anesthesia, you will remain fully responsive, with all vital reflexes uninhibited. The effects of oral sedation will not wear off until hours after your treatment is over, so you will need a ride home from your appointment.
