Saving You Time and Hassle

Traditional crowns require two appointments. At the first visit, the tooth is prepared for the crown and an impression taken to customize its fit. Then, the impression is sent to the dental laboratory, where the crown is made. For the next two weeks or so, a plastic temporary crown is worn until the permanent crown is placed at the second visit. Though necessary in some cases, this process is not ideal for a couple of reasons.

For one, it requires the patient to come in for two separate appointments. And who wants to spend twice as much PTO, twice as much gas, or twice as much time away from family or friends? The other thing patients don’t tend to love about the traditional crown-placement process is the temporary crown. Because it’s designed to be easily removable, it lacks the secure fit and feel of a permanent crown. Having to wear a temporary crown can make for a less-than-pleasant two weeks (or so), especially if it coincides with a vacation or another important event.

With all of this in mind, we are happy to offer same-day crowns. This way, you can skip the second visit and the temporary crown altogether!

Our Same-Day Crowns

At Angels Smiles, we use a CEREC machine that uses CAD/CAM technology to fabricate your crown while you wait. Our same-day crowns are milled from a block of lithium disilicate, which is a strong, tooth-colored ceramic. For this reason, CEREC crowns make excellent restorations for back teeth. Once your crown is complete, we cement it on and send you on your way. No need for a follow-up appointment!

Are CEREC Crowns as Good as Traditional Crowns?

Like our traditional crowns, CEREC crowns are made of a strong ceramic. The main difference between a CEREC crown and one of our traditional crowns is that the traditional one is overlaid with porcelain by our master ceramist. This allows us to reproduce the variations in color, translucency, and light reflectivity of a natural tooth, which is aesthetically necessary for a tooth in the smile zone. A CEREC crown, on the other hand, is milled from a ceramic block in a single tooth-colored shade that blends in well at the anterior (back) of the mouth, where fine aesthetic details are not noticeable. For this reason, we use traditional crowns for front teeth and are happy to provide same-day CEREC crowns for back teeth.
