Draper Same-Day Crowns
Do you need a crown? We can take care of it for you in one appointment at Angel’s Smile Dental Care. Our office utilizes state-of-the-art technology to provide same-day ceramic crowns. We restore your smile beautifully and conveniently so you can get on with your life.
Saving You Time and Hassle
Traditional crowns require two appointments. At the first visit, the tooth is prepared for the crown and an impression taken to customize its fit. Then, the impression is sent to the dental laboratory, where the crown is made. For the next two weeks or so, a plastic temporary crown is worn until the permanent crown is placed at the second visit.
Same-day crowns eliminate two inconveniences.
For one, they eliminate the need for two separate appointments, saving you time. For another, there is no need for a temporary crown. Temporary crowns sometimes come off before they are supposed to and they can be somewhat uncomfortable.
With all of this in mind, we are happy to offer same-day crowns. This way, you can skip the second visit and the temporary crown altogether!
Our Same-Day Crowns
At Angel’s Smile, we use a CEREC machine that uses CAD/CAM technology to fabricate your crown while you wait. After the tooth is prepared, we use an optical scanner to create a digital impression of the prepared tooth and surrounding teeth. This data is fed into the CEREC unit, which then mills your crown from a block of lithium disilicate, which is an extremely strong, tooth-colored ceramic. The result perfectly fits your prepared tooth and is made to comfortably harmonize with the adjacent and opposing teeth. For this reason, CEREC crowns make excellent restorations for back teeth. A few minutes later, once your crown is complete, we cement it on and send you on your way. No need for a follow-up appointment!
Are CEREC Crowns as Good as Traditional Crowns?
Like our traditional crowns, CEREC crowns are made of a strong ceramic. They are great for back teeth. However, when we are placing a crown for a tooth in the smile zone, Dr. Bailey wants more control over the aesthetics. A CEREC crown is milled from a ceramic block that comes in a selection of standard shades. When we place a crown in the smile zone, however, we have our master ceramist overlay the ceramic core with porcelain that is meticulously crafted so as to perfectly mimic the colors in your other teeth. Natural teeth have a shade gradient with areas of subtle tinting and variations in opacity and translucency. All these color properties can be perfectly matched with porcelain.
