What’s Considered a Dental Emergency?
You have an urgent dental need if you have any of the following:
- Persistent pain in your teeth or gums
- Injury or trauma to the mouth
- An aesthetic emergency
If you have any of these conditions, please call us so we can see you today. Read on to learn more about each one.
Persistent Pain

- Tooth decay
- Gum abscess
- Broken tooth
- Impacted wisdom tooth
- Tooth knocked out
Dental Trauma
Call us right away if you’ve experienced injury to your mouth. If a permanent tooth has been knocked out, it’s important to act quickly. It only takes a little more than half an hour for the delicate ligament tissue attached to the root to die and make replantation of the tooth impossible. Here are some important points, as explained by the Mayo Clinic:
- If you can put the tooth back, do it right away, and then come to the office.
- If not, don’t rinse off the tooth with water. That can kill the ligaments.
- Put the tooth in a moist towel (not dripping wet). Milk is a great transport medium, but it’s more important to get the tooth replanted quickly rather than taking time trying to find some milk.
- Or, if you can handle it, hold the tooth in your mouth. Saliva is also a great transport medium.
- Start driving to our office and call on your way. We will see you immediately.
Smile Emergency
Although not medically serious, a situation affecting your appearance, such as a chipped front tooth, can significantly impact your everyday life. As cosmetic dentists, Dr. Dr. Oksana Bailey understands the importance of a healthy-looking smile and treats “smile emergencies” with urgency, too.
